A considerably attractive woman athlete gets attention for her looks alone in a news story, not for how great of an athlete she is, but for her ability to allure to an audience. She gets reduced to a brand because of the sponsors she’s endorsed, a commodity for the “controversial” words she’s said, and a damsel for the amount of sympathy she can earn.
A young female swimmer’s business decision gets looked at more than her athleticism with a jab that a certain male swimmer will earn more. Let’s talk of what a “star” she will be than rather her future in the sport years to come.
And less, but certainly not least, a two time gold medalist in gymnastics who’s essentially made history gets cut to a few simple contrite words that neither mention her prowess as a gymnast or the reason why she’s gained so much attention.
The media is strange…
I think it’s safe to say that I hate modern day news media.

The only thing safe is meteorology, and even that is iffy sometimes…
