Why me? Reese and Carter have their first face-to-face conversation in a coffee shop. His first reply is dead serious, but when she looks him in the eye, he caves and becomes flippant. It’s his default setting with her at this point. It’s safe to hide himself by being glib. She briefly smiles back, appreciating the light comments mask the tension.
